Winning image at National Geographic!

I’m very happy and grateful to announce that my image “Wild rink” has been awarded 2nd Prize Winner in the “Nature Photographer of the Year” Photo Contest, Landscape Category, organized by the National Geographic!

This prestigious award has an even deeper meaning, since this image has been taken close to home in the beautiful Dolomites, where I photographically grew up and where I experienced so many special moments in contact with Mother Nature.

The prize is dedicated to Her and to my inner vision. May my images positively and concretely contribute to the protection and conservation of our natural heritage.

In this image, the first cold days of winter have frozen the surface of a pond and the first snowfall has revealed its delicate beauty. In low-pressure conditions, south-west winds push the clouds against the vertical peaks of the Pale San Martino. At dusk, a long shutter speed enhances the movement of the clouds around Mt. Cimon de la Pala (3,184 meters), one of the highest peaks in the Dolomites.
