Profile

Alessandro Gruzza was born in Trento, Italy. Raised on the foothills of the Dolomites, he discovered, appreciated and respected Nature from an early age.

He obtained a Master’s degree in Materials Engineering from the University of Trento in 1999 and a Professional Certificate in Business Management from the University of California in San Diego in 2000.

He approached photography being motivated by an innate love for Nature and by the desire to transmit its magnificence through inspiring images that generate a sense of respect and protection.

He learnt the photographic technique by working persistently in the field with SLR cameras, first analogic and then digital, and participating in specific courses with photography professionals, thus building up an experience of about twenty years.

After having worked for several years as an entrepreneur in an IT services company, he chose to transform his passion for photography into work.

Professional photographer since 2013, he has won numerous awards in national and international nature photography contests.

He won the 2nd prize in the National Geographic Nature Photographer of the Year contest 2016.

He won awards in other international photography contests, among which Asferico 2007 and 2010, Glanzlichter 2010 and 2013, International Photography Awards 2012, 2014, 2015 and 2016, WildlifePhoto 2017.

He published the book “The Voice of the Dolomites” in 2018 (Munay Editions) and the book “Paths of Light” in 2012 (Temi Editions).

He contributed with his photographs to the creation of the books “Trentino, espressioni d’acqua” (2014, IASA Editions), “Parco Naturale Paneveggio-Pale di San Martino, un viaggio per immagini” (2015, IDESIA Editions) and “Una Montagna di Vita – Ecosistemi d’alta quota e cambiamenti climatici” (2018, Consiglio Nazionale Ricerche).

He has realized numerous photographic exhibitions, among which “Paths of Light” (Mountain FilmFestival, Trento, 2013), “The Mountains of the Desert” (Mountain FilmFestival, Trento, 2016).

He is the author of the 2014 official calendar of the UNESCO Dolomites Foundation, and some of his images are displayed in the permanent collection of the MUSE Science Museum in Trento, Italy. Moreover, he realized the 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017 calendar for the CAI Bolzano, and the 2018 and 2019 calendar for the CAI Alto Adige.

Thanks to the collaboration with Trentino Marketing, his images are published on a regular basis both in Italy and abroad for the promotion of the territory.
He regularly organizes and leads photographic workshops in the Dolomites, both for adults and kids of the CAI Alto Adige Youth Groups, where he shares his photographic experience and passion.

He founded the Munay publishing house in 2018, with the aim of creating photographic books aimed at conveying love, respect and safeguarding for Nature. “The Voice of the Dolomites” is his first book personally published and produced.
