Africa
always startles for the multiplicity of life expressing itself in all its
aspects and colors. When the image captured on film turns out to be quite
similar to the unattainable one which is produced by our brain and our
sensations during that instant, then the same emotion is felt again and again.
In the impala
herds, the whole of the lamb crop is born within a narrow period of a few
weeks, usually at the beginning of the summer. This abundance of newborns
results in a higher number of them reaching adulthood, thus guaranteeing
future generations.
In this season rains
are just gone, leaving new strength to the wildlife. The bush is greener and
abundant with food for the herbivores. Its not a case that this phase
coincides with newborns among the most widespread antelopes of southern
Africa. Under the vigilant look of the ewes, many lambs move their first steps
on weak legs.
In this corner
of woodland painted with orange, the sweet and graceful glance of a lamb
contains all the spirit of this wild land, where beauty and fragility melt in
the harmony of nature, where predator and prey face each other everyday
following eternal rules and ancient rhythms.
In this sense, the
sensations of intimate intrusion inside his world is increased by the use of a
500mm telephoto lens and by the eye-leveled position of the observer.
And I say those tender and deep eyes could even
transmit serenity and love to the cold heart of man.
